My Front Page Excitement on Etsy

The great thing about being on a member of the Etsy team Craft Britannia is the amount of help and support you receive from your team mates. This year I had my first Front Page spot thanks to a treasury made by Imynda.

It was such a nice surprise to receive a convo from VeeDubz letting me now that I was on the front page. I also arrived in our monthly team 'Chat & Promote' thread to be congratulated by other team members.

My browser wasn't displaying Etsy properly at work so I couldn't view it until I got home. I went and looked as soon as I arrived home and was jumping up and down to see one of my daisy pendants on the front page.

Other team members featured were Veedubz, Erika Price, SixSkeins, theRainbowGirl and RedsRibbons. So nice to share this lovely experience with so many nice members of CraftBritannia.Thanks again to Imynda. :)

I really wanted to share with you my latest team news. As a member of CraftBritannia on Etsy I have been interviewed for our relatively new team blog. I am a member of the blog editorial and organisers team and if you know me you will know I can chat for Britain. When they asked me to do an interview for the second monthly update I found that wasn't the case. Writing about myself and my creative past had me speechless for the first time in ages.

I had a real retrospective period thinking about how it all unfolded and I hope I managed to pull out some interesting information. I would like to thank everyone that took the time to read it. There are some fantastic comments on there that have definitely made the whole process worthwhile.

Thanks again and I look forward to reading future team interviews.

New Year new listings

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. We brought the new year in watching the fireworks from Barr Beacon. There were a lot more lanterns in the sky this year and I can't help but wonder how many people woke up to one on fire, up a tree in their back garden.

The sky has been so grumpy today it was hard to get a lot of anything done. I had great plans for photographs that will have to wait until it cheers up a bit.

I thought this post would be the perfect opportunity to show you my new pendants. I am trying to get some pretty items in stock ready for Valentines. One of my aims for this year is to be better organised so watch this space to see how that pans out.

Return of the Daleks

Just when you were getting used to not seeing David Tennant as the Dr, had probably decided that Matt Smith was great as his 11th incarnation - Dr Who is off our screens again.

For those of us that are hooked once again and feeling withdrawal symptoms I have a treat for you. This latest season has shown us more variations of the potato-mashing adversary and my latest custom pin button order has a few of it's own.

The images were designed by Anji for her son's pirate dalek party, I can only imagine how much fun they will be having and what an awesome cake they will be munching on too. You can see her party pack items on her blog here.

I was recently approached by Laura of Laurasjewellery to make her some 1 inch square (25mm x 25mm) labels to have her Etsy shop avatar on them. My regular supplier of labels had this size in stock with rounded corners so I made 2 sheets of them for Laura and listed them in my shop for her to look at.

She bought them straight away and I was so pleased. I now have a supply of these labels if anyone else needs square labels for their packages or products. You can find a listing for 140 labels. If you need more just convo me and I will set you up a reserved listing too.

Branching out into business cards

I've received quite a few requests for designing and printing business cards. Up till now I've created the design and given the pdf to my customers. They would usually then get printed at a company like Vista Print or other local alternative.

I realised that if you don't know about printing these companies can seem a little intimidating so in November last year I was lucky enough to get a laser printer so can now offer design and printing too.

Fulltilt was my first customer for this and he ordered some double-sided cards with one of his pieces of art on the reverse side.

Since then I've also started offering single-sided cards too and made these for Tisserande:

A few words from a fellow etsian

Having two shops can mean you sometimes neglect one, this is something I can say from my own experience on Etsy. The main reason I found for this was that I was unsure how to market my original shop.

You may be like me and find it difficult to talk about your skills for fear of sounding like an egomaniac so I sought the help of a fellow Etsian, also one of my regular customers who has no problems translating your thoughts into words!

My shop really needed a focus so I bought a listing from MissYoshi for a Shop Announcement and explained to her the concept behind my work. She got to work quickly and wrote something from my perspective that said exactly what I wanted to say but in a way I felt comfortable with! I now have a direction and can feel confident in marketing my shop.

The Shop Announcement listing I bought also comes with a free rewrite, so when I need to move this on further, possibly in the New Year she will be happy to help me once again! She is a true professional and I would recommend getting some professional help with your shop if you're stumbling to say what you feel!

I've got the itch to start writing again! It's been 2 years since Blowback magazine folded and I haven't written any games reviews since then. It was a regular monthly thing for me for 5 years and now nothing! :(

I've been doing a bit of dabbling on Helium after it was recommended to me by a good friend of mine and it's got that side of my brain ticking. I've expressed my interest in writing for a couple of websites and set up a new wordpress blog but didn't have an avatar.

I got chatting with Carl Rothwell from Fulltilt in the Etsy chat room and he had some great ideas for it so I commissioned him to make me a Space Daisy.

Almost Autumn

This week you can definitely see that Autumn (Fall) is on it's way. Monday was the first morning when the light didn't peek in under the blind to help me wake up for work. Then the bathroom light didn't work and I dropped a lot of things down the toilet! :p

Although I love being outside in the Summer I think Autumn is my favourite season. It was a very pleasant surprise when I found that missyoshi had created a Fall treasury and included one of my skeleton leaf pendants in it.

I'm now looking forward to making more Autumn / Fall products and listing them in my shop.

It's been far too long since I wrote in my blog. I've been trying to juggle a few too many things and have certainly dropped a few of them along the way. My blog is now so far behind I really don't know where to start!

anything I missed I will compile and put up on the new web site that I am currently working on. From here on I will dedicate an hour every evening to post up any important news. Let's see how long that lasts before I fall behind again.

New Ideas - New Shop

As I've been having quite a few ideas lately that don't involve any graphics at all I thought the range of items in my shop was becoming a little too diverse. To avoid confusion I thought I would open a second shop and have my shiny pretty things in one shop and my graphics work in another.

Here is the new shop banner for my graphics shop. The idea was for it to be similar enough to my original shop for people to realise it's still me! It's called Dayzee Love Designs!

I opened up the shop with a few special offers. I'm offering the first 5 people to purchase a 'Sidebar Advert' a special $2 taster. This is in the hope that if it works out for them they will want to come back for other adverts when they get a new range of stock or have a specific sale.

I've sold 2 of the 5 so there's still a chance to get a bargain here. Owlbot's advert is completed and PastryStitches is arranging photos for her advert.

Thank You Love Hearts pins and magnets

You may remember that I had an idea to make 'Thank You Love Hearts' for your customers, to drop in with their order just to say thanks. They have a double purpose in that they can wear the pin button ones on their coats, bags or hats and the magnets will go nicely on fridges or desks. This way they will always have your etsy shop address handy should they want to recommend it to someone.

I'm offering $2 tasters on the 'Customised Thank You Love Heart Pin Buttons'. You can try 10 for $2. Your shop name is added and the message then says 'Thanks for shopping @ your shop name'. If your customers love them come back and order a larger order at a special rate.

Web Design for 2 fantastic Villas in Gocek, Turkey

This post is a little bit of a mix of promotion for my web design skills and one of my web customers.

For the last 4 years now I've been web designing for a customer who has two beautiful villas in Gocek, Turkey. It's a pleasure to work on as the photographs of the place are amazing.

Not only is the subject matter amazing but the customer is lovely too, so this project has been an enjoyable one.

This year due to all the advances in web design and the efforts that browsers such as Firefox and Safari have been making to use the web standards of the W3C we decided to update the look of the site quite substantially.

This new site is a mixture of HTML and CSS and is very clean and crisp looking. It has the modern feel of a blog while still having the professional edge of a web site. The pages are designed to be limitless so that new content can be added often without distorting the look of the page. Due to a snazzy bit of coding from Andreas Viklund, the navigation is fixed no matter how far you scroll.

My First Treasury

It's been an interesting day that started off with a bit of spring cleaning. As it's the first day of my Spring break or Easter holiday I was determined to do as much as I could. I threw out a lot of old junk from my kitchen in the morning and can now see the top of my kitchen table.

I wanted the afternoon to have some kind of achievement to it too so decided to try and get my first treasury. I was amazed when I actually managed to get one but didn't have a clue what I was doing! There isn't a lot to go by and I had no idea why the items on the right had faded slightly.

The result of the treasury has been an exciting one and it has brought a great deal of attention to my shop. I have included a screenshot as it won't be available for very long.

In the meantime while it is still live will you please show it some love in the hope that it may make it to the front page!

Have your shop name or other message put on these customisable 'Love Heart' Thank You Badges / Pin Badges.

They're the prefect way to thank your customers for their business while also doing a bit of self-promotion at the same time. As they're really cute too people will carry your shop name around with them on their hat, coat or bag. So if anyone asks where they got that lovely item that you sold them - your details can be close to hand.

You might also want to have a different kind of 'Thank You' message. As long as your text will fit around the edge of the badge / button it's up to you!

Making Custom Product Labels

I've been lucky enough to get a couple of custom orders in the last 3 weeks and thought I'd share them with everyone who stops by for a quick read.

When I got my first order for custom Thank You pin buttons, I was also asked to make some oval product labels. After a bit of time spent making Illustrator and InDesign templates they came out great.

I received some lovely feedback from my customer and hopefully everyone that shops at QuietMind or BeadinAroundTheBlock will also leave good feedback about the packaging too.

After a bit of promotion on the forums I received another custom order for oval product labels from my good friend TheBeadedHeart. It was lovely to work on a project together and we were both very happy with the outcome.

If you buy anything from her (and I recommend you do as she's a perfectionist) check out the product labels as they were fun to make.

Daisy Love keychain from PastryStitches

You may remember that I posted a while ago about making a custom banner for PastryStitches in exchange for a custom Daisy Love keychain. Well, I though I'd update you on how lovely the keychain was.

I love it, it's better than I expected........ so nice that I've taken it off my keys as I didn't want it to get damaged. It now sits pride of place on my top shelf amongst my favourite teddies.

Custom 'Thank You' pin buttons

I've been having a think about some interesting kinds of marketing recently and thought this could work on many levels. It's always nice to give customers an extra gift in their parcel and good manners to thank them for bringing their custom to you. To be able to do the two in one pin button is great. Added to the fact that they will be able to pass your details onto interested people if they have it on their bag, coat or hat makes it almost priceless.

With this in mind I've been chatting to people on the Etsy Midlands thread and in the chat room and I've had interest from two Etsy sellers on the first day I mentioned it.

This is my first completed order to promote the shops QuietMind.Etsy.com and BeadinAroundTheBlock.Etsy.com, the photo isn't great as I took it very late but you can get the idea. The opposite colours really compliment each other too. They are now on their way to my customer and I hope they're as happy with them as I was!

I am now setting up some sample pin buttons and listings for various quantities but if in the meantime you'd like a custom design please convo me at my etsy shop and I will give you a list of the prices.

Skeleton Leaf Pendants

After making my skeleton leaf badges (pin buttons) and taking them everywhere with me on my recycled Levi's 501 bag I really wanted to make a pendant. I made fridge magnets for all the people that aren't into badges (pins) but wanted something that I could wear regardless of my outfit.

What followed was a period of experimentation, always an enjoyable time for me. I experimented with different materials and finally came up with exactly what I was after. It worked best in purple, pink and red. Purple is by far my favourite!

It's so pretty and has attracted comments from both men and women. I like it so much I'm planning to make myself one to wear to promote my work.

They had only been listed in my Etsy shop 1 day (not even 24 hours) when I sold the pink one. It's now on it's way to the US and I'm eagerly awaiting the feedback from the customer.

I'm now planning to list them as 3 separate items instead of 1 listing with the choice of three colours. When chatting with the Etsy community in the chatrooms they post up my pendants very often so I'm very happy with the response.

Now that the post-christmas lull is over I'm looking forward to taking some more orders for them. If you'd like one you can buy it from my Etsy shop.

Snow Day Yay!

Today was a snow day for me, but not without first trying to get in to work. Madness I hear you say, well you wouldn't be wrong but along with this madness came quite a bit of inspiration!

I just happened to have my digital camera on me and as soon as I got off the train I wanted to start capturing what I saw. After all it's not everyday that it snows and it does make the things you see everyday look that bit more interesting.

The real inspiration for me came when I saw a snowman in the park on our way to the minibus stop. I actually skipped through the snow so I could get up close to photograph it. I thought he was great.... especially his eyebrows! 'Yeah what you looking at?'

After taking arty shots of various trees and car treads in the snow we discovered there was no way to continue on to work. Our journey had come to an end, we had to turn back.

So our numbers had almost doubled now as we all realised that we had to head back up the road to the train station and return home.

The station was full of weary travellers although they all seemed to be waiting on our platform! The wait was long so amongst the hustle and bustle of the platform noise I took the time to get some more interesting shots of my mornings adventure.

What seemed like every 5 minutes there was an announcement about something being delayed or cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

People chatted and tried not to worry but there were a lot of people waiting..... would we all fit on? I thought my best bet was to ask the ticket inspector.

Hahaha how funny is that! It really made my morning. The train came and we had to get off after 10 minutes and wait for a local train. We did all finally make it back to where we'd started almost 4 hours before.

It certainly was an interesting and inspiring morning. Now for the afternoon!

Custom Banners Designs

Last week I made a custom banner for PastryStitches's Etsy shop in exchange for a custom order from her. Stitches is making me a daisy with a heart, I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I took the images of 2 items from her shop, the 'White Heart Kitty' and 'Angry Kitty' and designed the banner around them. This way she can change her avatar to suit her mood! Hehe!
She loved it so much she said I should make them and sell them through my shop.

I'm a graphic and web designer and while some of my graphics are available in my shop I hadn't thought about using my skills in that way on Etsy. I designed Yellow Book adverts for a year and have made hundreds of adverts for national magazines in the UK too.

I made my own banner and have had some lovely, very similar comments about that while chatting on the Etsy forums. So I think I will start to make custom banners and sell them on Etsy although at the moment I'm not sure whether I will do them through my DayzeeLove shop or open a specific shop dedicated to advertising materials.

A Cup of Tea and a Chat Treasury

I've been posting on the Promotions forum almost since I first started listing my products on Etsy. I have a passion for chat and feel it's the best way to promote things as people find a mutual need for the exchange and everyone is happy.

My two favourite threads were started by TheBeadedHeart and Enyaeire as they have a focus on chatting and promoting at the same time. I've made a great many friends this way, gained some priceless advice and even a sale!

I talk to many of my new friends almost every day and they really helped me focus and hold it together at the low point of my flu-virus. One of the contributors to the thread, FebystanDesigns created a homage to the 'Cup of Tea and a Chat' thread in the form of a Treasury named after it.

It was such a joy to be included in a treasury with so many people that I know and respect and I'm very grateful to Febystan for choosing one of my items.

Warm welcome to Art Fire

I found out about Art Fire through a recommendation to use the Heartomatic counter available on the Craft Cult website. Curious about what it was like I signed up one weekend at the beginning of January. Just a few hours after listing I got an email notification from tindlebears saying that I’d been chosen to be included in his treasury. It wasn’t even 24 hours and my Skeleton Leaf magnets had made an impact already and the blog that the treasury was on was bringing views to my shop!

I would say that’s a very warm welcome. It was the third treasury that my Skeleton Leaf magnets had appeared in and was a very good introduction to the friendly attitude towards newbies at Art Fire. I’m yet to really advertise my presence on Art Fire but as of today have had 50 views already.

Thanks to tindlebears for introducing my shop to the other sellers on Art Fire.

Custom made bag from Gardencris27

You know when you're chatting in the forum and you spot something you'd love to buy but don't have the cash just yet! That's what happened to me with a gardencris27 bag. I didn't have the sense to put it in my favourites as I was new to Etsy. Later on when I couldn't find it I thought I'd missed my chance.

I stumbled across gardencris27 again in the forums when I spotted the very bag in her avatar. I sent her a convo and luckily for me she had just enough material to make another bag. We arranged to discuss it after the holidays and she very promptly followed it up.

The original bag I'd liked was very big which is perfect for me as I like to take everything, including the kitchen sink out with me. I've since decided to go on a bag diet so I opted for the small, to encourage me to travel light with room for keys, purse and sat-nav!

Once it was finished she contacted me and listed the bag as a custom order. The listing received lots of views so I got in there fast to 'bag my order'! It looked great in the photos and my anticipation was mounting.

I had it sent to work so motivate me into the back to work mode as having 2 weeks for christmas with flu was a big let down.

It arrived last week and I couldn't believe how well made it was both inside and out. It has lovely long handles that I wasn't expecting for the small and 4 pockets inside to organise things. It exceeded all my expectations and I wanted to share it with all my colleagues. Sadly 90% of them are men and don't get too excited by handbags but my friends loved it.

It's the nicest bag I've ever had and I've had a lot of bags. I've learnt a good lesson about buying handmade and will definitely be buying more from gardencris27 as she's a perfectionist.

Sally Wrist Warmers by Spoodles

The first parcel was a pair of Sally Wrist Warmers from Spoodles. Not only do they look great but they've helped to make my long commute to work each day that bit more bearable.

The sleeves on my coat seem to expose my wrists when I'm driving and since I've been wearing my wrist warmers I haven't had to blast my heater so much. So it seems that they are also doing their bit for the environment too and they only cost me $5.00.

Spoodles is a lovely shop to buy from, very helpful and friendly and happy to ship Internationally. I look forward to buying more things from there in the future.

Exciting parcels from overseas!

The great thing about Etsy is that not only can you sell to people overseas but you can buy amazing gifts from all over the world.

Last week was made very exciting for me when two of my orders from Etsy arrived. They both came from overseas so this made it all the more special when they were delivered.

I'm going to share my great purchases with you on this blog as to have a recommendation for a shop is a very comforting thing when choosing gifts for other people or just treating yourself.

I will also start a section for supplies too as it's always good to know where to go when there's so much choice around.

My First Treasury West - People Who ROCK

Winterdreams started a thread about why our Etsy shops rock and it grew very quickly and had some very positive comments in it. Then AmyMayDesign posted a link to her Treasury West that was inspired by the thread.

I was very pleased to see my skeleton leaves in my first Treasury West. I had the flu at the time and had a fever and chatting on the forum was the only thing that I could do to focus. This cheered me up so much.

Unfortunately as I was sweating so much I only took a screenshot of half the page as my laptop screen is only small. If I had been feeling better I may have thought to take two, one of the top and one of the bottom! :/

My First Treasury - FABULOUS

I woke up to a lovely email on Wednesday morning from Rachelaakmama excitedly informing me that I was in her latest Treasury. The link was in the email and myself and my boyfriend were very excited to see that there were my pin buttons (my first ever item to be hearted) right in the centre of a Treasury full of my favourite colours.

My greatest present for 2008 was a badge making machine from my boyfriend. It brought back memories of having a badge maker as a child and the added joy that came with the endless possibilities that it opened up.

I'm exploring a few of my ideas currently but will be happy to make custom designs for anyone that's interested. I have a 25mm badge maker / pin button maker so can make those cute little retro looking buttons or some interesting and unique modern designs like my avatar!
